I don’t normally use this blog for personal posts, but decided I could and should today. This past week was a complete rollercoaster. I was unable to make it to a wedding I was booked for in Nashville yesterday. The plane I was supposed to fly out on was being repaired for more than 5 hours. I’m not gonna lie, having to refund the money stings a little, but that doesn’t pale in comparison to how disappointed I was that I wasn’t going to be able to photograph this wedding. I was totally looking forward to it.
So I came back home. It turns out, yesterday was also my grandmother’s 93rd birthday. She had been in the hospital the past 4 days and was getting to return home on her birthday. It made me realize, once again, that everything happens for a reason. Sure, I didn’t get to go to Nashville, hang out with friends, shoot an awesome wedding for my portfolio, spend money I didn’t need to. But, I got to spend time with an important person in my life. A person whom I don’t know how long she’ll be around much longer for. Sitting there next to my grandmother as she ate her lunch, memories of her and my grandfather from my childhood and adolescence came rushing back to me. She is one of the sweetest, selfless, caring, hard working persons I know.
My grandmother has lived in this house since 1974. I can remember countless holidays with the family packed into the living room and kitchen. I remember Christmas after Christmas with her and my aunts in the kitchen making delicious tamales.
I love you Grandma Ma.
I bet these pictures are worth so much more than the wedding photos you would have taken. 😉 Amazing.
Dave, these are great pictures and precious memories. Sorry you had to miss the wedding, but thank you for reminding us all, that we can still choose to see the better. I am sure your grandma was blessed and proud to have you there. Thanks for sharing! Hope your week gets better.
Whoa, I started crying before I even saw the pictures. She is so amazing! And I can remember making those tamales with her! =) Good times. Loved how you shot the back patio and her room
David u r so right that day was worth so much more ur grandma is so awesome and such a blessing to all of us we just praise God for the opportunity He gave us to be a part of her life………awesome pics……..God Bless U
Love this Dave. Seriously the best pictures I’ve seen because although the others are wonderful and tell a story, this tells YOUR story. I think the personal blogging is a wonderful idea for this very reason.
You’re so lucky to have your grandmother. I no longer have any grandparents but they leave such an impression – I think it was God calling you to be there at that specific time. So divine.
